11 Lusher Students Awarded 15 National Medals in 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards
Lusher Charter School is pleased to announce that eleven (11) students have been awarded fifteen (15) National Medals in the 2017 Scholastic Art & Writing Awards.
In Visual Arts, 11th grader Zoe Nguyen was awarded a Silver Medal for Drawing & Illustration; 10th Grader Lila Rigamer received a Silver Medal for Drawing & Illustration and 12th grader Lizette Toto won the highest award with a Gold Medal in Photography.
In Creative Writing, Senior Taylor Crayton won a Silver Medal for Poetry; a Silver Medal with Distinction for her Senior Portfolio; and the American Voices! For Poetry (American Voices is the best in the region). Senior Sophie Evans won a Silver Medal for Senior Portfolio; and a Silver Medal with Distinction for Senior Portfolio. Senior Alexandra Gulden won a Silver Medal for Short Story and Senior Madeline Sintes won a Silver Medal for Senior Portfolio.
Senior Beatrice Zhang, (a 2017 National YoungArts Foundation Finalist) was awarded a Silver Medal with Distinction for her Senior Portfolio and the highest award, a Gold Medal, for her Poetry.
Freshman Poet Wolfe won a Silver Award for Flash Fiction and 7th Grader Sarah Myers won a Silver Medal for Flash Fiction. Freshman Esperanza Milla won a Gold Medal for Poetry.
“We are so incredibly proud of our amazing Visual Arts and Creative Writing students, as well as their talented teachers,” said CEO Kathy Riedlinger. “Every year we have an incredibly strong showing in the Scholastic Awards and we owe this to the dedication, creativity and drive of our Certificate of Artistry students and teachers.”
As a leader in art and academic integration, Lusher’s arts curriculum features an intensive pre-professional Certificate of Artistry (CA) program. Lusher’s teachers are all practicing artists, immersing our students in various art mediums that are used to build stronger, more creative learners in all areas of academics. Assessment criteria for the CA is based on the National Standards for Art Education. The program features concentrated classes in: Creative Writing, Dance, Theatre, Stagecraft, Musical Theatre, Music (Vocal, Jazz, Strings, Orchestral), Media Arts and Visual Arts.
