Benjamin Franklin High School Senior Volleyball Star to Sign with Coastal Alabama

Date: March 29th, 2019

Franklin Senior Volleyball Star to Sign with Coastal Alabama NEW ORLEANS (Feb. 14, 2019) – Benjamin Franklin High School senior Darian Duroncelet, a standout on the school’s acclaimed volleyball team, is scheduled to sign with Coastal Alabama College in a ceremony at the high school, located at 2001 Leon C. Simon Drive, at 11:30 a.m. on Friday, Feb. 15. Duroncelet, who plans to pursue studies in biological sciences, was one of just 50 students statewide – just eight of whom were public school students – to be named to the All-State Louisiana Volleyball Coaches Association team. “Darian is the true definition of Franklin volleyball,” said her coach, Jodee Pulizzano. “Before she got here, she had never played. She didn’t even join the team until her sophomore year and then went on her senior year to make All State, All Metro, and All District! She truly appreciates everyone around her. Many students her age don’t appreciate their advantages until they get some distance from it – in their 20s or 30s – but not her. Shegets the impact everyone at Franklin has had on her and is grateful for that. We in turn are grateful for her. Everybody loves her.” Pulizzano praises Duroncelet as a phenomenal athlete with a strong work ethic who has emerged as one of the volleyball team’s leaders. “She’s always accountable, more than sheevens needs to be,” Pulizzano says. “You know she has your back. She’s not a leader because she’s loud or gives pep talks; she is a leader because you know you can count on her.” Duroncelet, for her part, says the support from her coach and her team members is the biggest factor in her success: “All of the long practices during our season and the summer, our early mornings, and Jodee encouraging us to go to conditioning even when the seasonwas over in order to stay in shape helped me get to this point. Jodee always ensured that our team felt like a family, from having team lunches to the many team-bonding activities we did throughout the seasons and everything else in between. She genuinely cares about each and every one of her players and always wants the best for us. Jodee is one-of-a-kind, and I am so appreciative of her and everything she has done. I definitely couldn’t have done any of this without my team. We’ve always been there for that. We are always together at every practice, every game, at conditioning, you name it. They are truly my family. They’ve always been so supportive, and I love for each other no matter the circumstances, and I can’t thank them enough them so so much!” Coastal Alabama, which counts golfer Bubba Watson among its notable alumni, has 10,000 students at 15 campuses and instructional sites across South Alabama. Duroncelet will attend the Bay Minette location, and both she and Pulizzano are excited about her future. “I can’t wait to see what the next level brings,” Pulizzao said. “This will really open the doorfor her.” For more information or to arrange interviews, please contact Eve Peyton at (504) 503-0062 or
