Benjamin Franklin High School Val/Sal & Grads!

NEW ORLEANS (May 23, 2019) – Benjamin Franklin High School held its 2018-2019

commencement ceremony on Thursday, May 23, 2019, at Mahalia Jackson Theater for the

Performing Arts. Franklin awarded diplomas to 220 students. Chief Justice Bernette Joshua

Johnson, the Louisiana Supreme Court’s 25th chief justice, its second female chief justice,

and its first African-American chief justice, served as the commencement speaker.

During the ceremony, the Franklin Alumni Association presented the Key Award to Quincy

Weary, the senior class president. The Key Award is given to the senior who best exemplifies

the spirit and broad-based excellence of our namesake, Benjamin Franklin. Weary is headed

to Davidson College in the fall.

The valedictorian was Kaitlin Braganza Nguyen, who will be attending Tulane University.

Kaitlin is the daughter of Tri Nguyen and Ann Braganza.The salutatorian was Sophia

Olivia DiMarco, who will be attending the University of Georgia. Sophia is the daughter of

Damon and Jill DiMarco.
