Hynes Charter Schools CEO, Michelle Douglas, has announced three new appointments in its administration for the 2019-20 school year: Shawn Persick as Hynes Charter Schools Executive Director of School Operations, Anne Kramer as Principal of Hynes Charter School-Lakeview, and Brittany Smith as Principal of Hynes Charter School-UNO.
“The Hynes Charter School Corporation and its administrators have worked diligently to create a successful school model which will replicate to a second school campus in the fall. Hynes Charter Schools Executive Director of School Operations, Shawn Persick, has worked in public education for 22 years, beginning her career as a teacher at Paul B. Habans and Edward Hynes Elementary Schools. She has served as the Assistant Principal of Hynes Charter School-Lakeview for the past 13 years. Persick earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree and a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Holy Cross College. She received a second Master’s Degree in Educational Leadership from the University of New Orleans and was recognized that year as “Outstanding Master’s Graduate” by UNO in Educational Leadership. She is a fellow in the School Leadership Center of Greater New Orleans. She serves on the Hynes Strategic Planning Committee which is guiding the replication of the schools.
Hynes Charter School-Lakeview Principal, Anne Kramer, began her career as a business banker, but a passion for education brought her to the classroom in 1994 as a teacher at Jean Gordon and Hynes Elementary Schools. Kramer was a Teacher of the Year at Hynes Charter School. In 2013, she joined the Hynes Administrative Team and served as an Instructional Coach. Kramer fulfilled the role as the Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, and is a member of the Hynes Strategic Planning Committee. She earned a Bachelor’s of Science Degree from Loyola University and teacher certification from the University of New Orleans. She received School Leader Certification from the School Leadership Center (SLC) alternative program.
Hynes Charter School-UNO Principal, Brittany Smith, worked as a classroom teacher at Pierre A. Capdau, McDonogh City Park Academy, and Hynes Charter School. At Hynes, she also served as the School and Family Involvement Solutions Team Facilitator and Literacy Facilitator. Smith is a member of the Hynes Strategic Planning Committee and she is a School Leadership Center graduate. Her certifications include Elementary Education, Vocal Music, and a Master’s of Education in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of New Orleans. Smith has earned numerous awards including Hynes Teacher of the Year and Louisiana State Teacher of the Year
Semi-Finalist, named as CityBusiness Ones to Watch, and was selected as a finalist for the New Schools New Orleans Excellence in Teaching Award.
