On August 5, the Bureau of Governmental Research announced the recipients of the BGR Excellence in Government Awards 2020 honoring extraordinary local and state government employees and private citizens in the New Orleans area. Discovery Schools CEO/Head of School Dr. Patty Glaser is the recipient of the Innovation Award, which recognizes public employees who have implemented creative solutions to pressing problems.
Dr. Glaser was recognized for her work to secure construction financing for Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA) and Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (DJOD).
A committee of BGR board members selected the BGR Excellence in Government Awards 2020 honorees through a competitive process. BGR solicited nominations from government officials and employees and the general public in four categories. The seven BGR honorees will be recognized in a one-hour program on WYES-TV that is scheduled to air Sept. 18 and 20th.

Established in 2013, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (K-12) recently opened a new state-of-the-art facility in Kenner featuring nine science labs, a teaching kitchen, art, and music studios. Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, through an innovative partnership with Ochsner opened in August 2020. Dr. John Ochsner Discovery will operate in an interim campus on Jefferson Highway for the 2020-2021 academic year as a K-4 school. In 2021, the school will move to its permanent campus in Shrewsbury with K-6 and will grow one grade level each year until reaching K-8.
