Morris Jeff Community School to Celebrate Black History Month and Mardi Gras with upcoming events
Feb. 16 Black History Poetry Slam and Feb. 25 Parade are free and open to the public
Morris Jeff Community school invites all friends, families and NOLA neighbors to commemorate Black History Month and celebrate Mardi Gras with the school community this February.
The school will host its Black History Poetry Slam on Wednesday, February 16, 6 p.m. at the Morris Jeff Middle School Campus, 2733 Esplanade Ave. Middle school students and staff will present original poems and artwork related to Black History Month and perform on stage in front of surprise celebrity judges. Masks are required and refreshments will be served at this free public event. Proof of COVID vaccination or a negative test within 72 hrs is required to attend.
Then on Friday, March 25 at 10 a.m. the school will host the Krewe of MJCS parade at the elementary school campus, 211 S Lopez. All are invited to see the Pelican Band as they lead all elementary classes in a parade around the building. Each class will showcase a children’s book that they have enjoyed together.
