Morris Jeff Community School to Host Open Houses

for Grades PK-12th on October 20

Morris Jeff Community School (MJCS) will host Open House night for prospective students in grades PK-12 at all three of its campuses on Thursday, October 20 at 6:00 p.m. Open House for elementary school in grades PK – 5th grade will be held at the Lopez Campus at 211 S. Lopez St. in Mid-City.  The Open House for middle school in grades 6-8 will take place at the Drew Campus at 3819 St Claude Ave. and the Open House for high school in grades 9-12 will take place at its Clark Campus at 1301 N. Derbigny St.

Morris Jeff Community School is the only Louisiana school to offer all 3 International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes – Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP). IB students learn to care about their community, value our common humanity, initiate solutions to problems, and actively pursue ways to enact change around them. Morris Jeff is a small setting with many perspectives — we value differences and provide a safe space to explore ideas and create positive change.

The PYP and MYP build academic, social and learning skills in our students to prepare them for the challenge of the IB Diploma. Students begin learning a foreign language every day in Pre-K, and use their internationally-minded skills to tackle capstone projects in Grades 5, 8, and 10. Reflection and action are the pillars of academic growth and character development of our students.

Morris Jeff juniors and seniors can pursue the full IB Diploma. To earn the internationally-recognized Diploma, students must pass 7 courses in different subjects (including foreign language), write a 4,000 word research paper on a topic of their interest, and complete extracurricular hours dedicated to Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS). Universities look favorably at IB students. Research shows that students with IB diplomas graduate earlier than their peers and maintain higher GPAs than non-IB students.

Morris Jeff is an open-admissions public charter school serving over 1400 students in Orleans Parish across 3 campuses.  For more information on Morris Jeff Community School: email  info@morrisjeffschool.org, call (504) 373-6258 for Elementary School, (504) 503-0730 for  Middle School, or (504) 355-0210 for High School or go to: www.morrisjeffschool.org
