Morris Jeff Community School to occupy William Frantz School Fall 2023

The historic campus is first stop on Louisiana’s U.S. Civil Rights Trail, school was integrated by Ruby Bridges 

Morris Jeff Community School, Louisiana’s only PK-12 International Baccalaureate (IB) World School, will move its high school to the historic William Frantz School, 3811 North Galvez, for the 2023-24 school year, announced Dr. Avis Williams, Superintendent of New Orleans Public Schools, and the Orleans Parish School Board.

“The Morris Jeff community is excited for this opportunity for its high school, and appreciative of this historic, beautiful facility.  Our students in Grades 9-12 will learn and excel here,” said Patricia Perkins, Morris Jeff Community School Head of School. The move will take place this summer.

“Moreover, we are inspired by the fact that six-year old Ruby Bridges made Frantz the inaugural site for school desegregation. Her legacy will live on in our diverse-by-design school,” Ms. Perkins said.

The William Frantz site is the first stop on Louisiana’s U.S. Civil Rights Trail. Today, a statue of Ruby Bridges stands in the school’s courtyard, and Classroom 2306 has been restored to the way it would have looked when she attended the school. 

“The William Frantz facility is a lovely blend of historic, preserved architecture and modern new design that will better provide for our high school needs, ” said Perkins. “Our new neighbors will find that Morris Jeff is a strong partner and brings a vibrant educational program to the area.”

Morris Jeff Community High School is currently housed at 1301 N. Derbigny St.  and serves 470 students.  Morris Jeff Community School is a top-performing, open-admissions, PK-12 public charter school serving more than 1,400 students in Orleans Parish on three campuses.
