Application Deadline for Discovery Schools is February 5

The deadline to apply to a Discovery School for the 2021-22 school year is Friday, February 5, 2021 at 10am.  Prospective students for Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA) in Kenner (grades K-12) and Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (DJOD) in Jefferson (grades K-6) must apply by 10 am on Friday, February 5. Discovery Schools are open enrollment, academically successful public charter schools delivering a rigorous curriculum with a focus on health and sciences. Discovery Schools operates two schools with three campuses. KDHSA is situated on two campuses: Maine Campus (grades K-4), 2504 Maine Avenue in Metairie and the Loyola/Vintage Campuses (grades 5-12), 3837 Loyola Drive in Kenner. KDHSA opened a new state-of-the-art high school facility in March of 2020. DJOD is currently located at an interim campus and will transition to a newly constructed campus this August located at 1108 Shrewsbury Road in Jefferson.  

In 2020, Discovery Schools expanded with the addition of  Dr. John Ochsner Discovery in Jefferson, an innovative partnership with Ochsner Health. The school will grow by one grade level each year until fully expanded to serve students in Pre-K through 8th grade. Eighth grade students at DJOD will gain automatic entrance to high school at KDHSA.

Founded in 2013, by the Discovery Health Sciences Foundation Board of Directors, Discovery Schools are high performing open-enrollment public charter schools in Jefferson Parish. Discovery prides itself on a creative and rigorous academic learning environment as well as a strong school culture. At Discovery, courses have been developed for college and career readiness with an emphasis on health sciences and technology.
