Benjamin Franklin High School Announces New Girls’ Soccer Head Coach
NEW ORLEANS (April 22, 2024) – Benjamin Franklin High School is excited to announce that Rodolfo Araujo has taken over as the head coach of the girls’ soccer team.
Araujo served for three years as the assistant girls’ soccer coach at McGehee, where the team was a state semifinalist in 2022 and a state quarterfinalist in 2023. Prior to that he coached at Metairie Park Country Day School; he also has coached numerous teams with the Louisiana Fire Soccer Club.
Ben Franklin Athletic Director Chrissa Hailey said: “I cannot tell you how excited I am to have Coach Araujo coming to Franklin. He is amazing! He knows soccer from many levels, growing up playing in Brazil and playing and coaching here for many years. He also happens to be an awesome human being!”
The girls’ soccer program at Ben Franklin has a long and proud legacy, with seven state championships (1998, 2003, 2004, 2013, 2014, 2015, and 2016). Coach José Ferrand, who led the girls to four of those championships and was inducted into the Louisiana High School Athletic Association Soccer Hall of Fame this year, is excited about the future of Ben Franklin girls’ soccer.
“Coach Araujo is very knowledgeable and has been coaching for a long time,” Ferrand said. “He has a great rapport with the players, and I can’t wait to see everything they will accomplish together.”
