Hynes-UNO to Hold Drive-thru Kindergarten Closing Ceremony and Parade

Date: May 14th, 2020

2020 Kindergarten class finishes strong as first at Hynes-UNO
Hynes-UNO will hold a drive-thru Kindergarten Closing Ceremony and car parade for its inaugural 2020 Kindergarten class of 107 students this Thursday, May 14, from 10:30-11:30am at Hynes-UNO, 6101 Chatham Drive in New Orleans.

The celebration will include decorated cars, individual student photos and the distribution of Kindergarten certificates. Cheering teachers and staff will be on hand (at a safe distance) with posters, pom-poms and balloons.  Hynes staff will distribute gift bags to the students with class t-shirts and Hynes swag. “This ceremony may not be what we expected for our first Kindergarten class, but this event proves the strength, belief and commitment of the Hynes community,” said Principal Brittany Smith, Hynes-UNO. “Our teachers, staff and families have stayed motivated and determined throughout this difficult time.”Originally scheduled to take place at a ballroom at UNO, the Hynes-UNO Kindergarten celebration is significant as a celebration of its inaugural class.  In partnership with the University of New Orleans (UNO), Hynes-UNO opened for the school year 2019-20, serving students in Kindergarten, and will add a grade each year until K-8. “This has been an amazing year and we are so proud of our Hynes family at both campuses,” said Hynes Charter Schools CEO, Dr. Michelle Douglas.  “We are a community that despite what is thrown at us, will make it great for our students.  Many thanks to our community, families, students and staff for their support.”Hynes-UNO is a charter school focused on a well-rounded, core curriculum with a science, technology, engineering, arts and mathematics (STEAM) focus. The school also offers a French Immersion program. Hynes Charter Schools also operates its original campus, Hynes-Lakeview at 990 Harrison Ave., which will hold a  drive-thru celebration and parade for its Kindergarteners from 9-10am on the same day.In the event of rain, the event will be postponed.
