International High School of New Orleans Senior Organizes Hurricane Relief Supply Drive for Honduras
Senior Luna Baltodano Collecting Items for Hondurans Affected by Hurricanes Eta and Iota
(NEW ORLEANS) – International High School of New Orleans senior Luna Baltodano has organized a hurricane relief supply drive to support her native country of Honduras as the country recovers from back-to-back major hurricanes.

Baltodano is asking the community for toiletries, cleaning products, wipes, masks, clothing, non-perishable food items, baby items and water to send to those recovering from the mass destruction of catastrophic Hurricanes Eta and Iota.

Relief  items may be dropped off at IHSNO located at 727 Carondelet Street in downtown New Orleans now through this Friday, November 20. Monetary donations will also be accepted so Baltodano and her volunteers can purchase the much needed supplies to send to Honduras.

Hurricane Eta made landfall in Central America as a Category 4 with sustained winds of more than 140 mph on November 3. Two weeks later, on November 17, Hurricane Iota made landfall as a Category 4 with sustained winds of 120 mph near the exact same location Eta hit.

Baltodano felt compelled to act after seeing the effects of both major hurricanes on her loved ones and fellow Hondurans. “To have not one, but two major hurricanes hit Honduras and other countries in Central America broke my heart,” said Baltodano. “I can’t just sit by idly while seeing so many of my friends and family suffer so I organized this hurricane relief drive to get to supplies to the hardest hit areas of Honduras.”

School officials from downtown New Orleans’ only high school say that donations from the community so far have been helpful will make an impact for families suffering in one of the most intense hurricane seasons on record.

“IHSNO is truly an international high school with students from many different countries and continents under one roof,” said IHSNO Head of School Sean Wilson. “When our students see other countries in need, they are very quick to come to the aid of their classmates, their families and anyone suffering, and we’re proud of the compassion and charity that they display during trying times.”
