Nov. 4: Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA)Holds Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for High School Campus 

WHAT: Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (Discovery), an open enrollment high-performing public charter school for grades PK-12, will hold a Ribbon Cutting Ceremony for its High School Campus (9-12), which opened at the start of the pandemic in March 2020 and welcomed students in August 2020. COVID delayed the initial ceremony, but KDHSA is eager to celebrate its new state-of-the-art campus and invite the KDHSA community to see it for the very first time!

WHERE: Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy (KDHSA)3837 Loyola Drive in Kenner

WHY: The $36 million building includes nine science labs, including an Ochsner Hospital simulation lab. The 125,000 square foot building also includes a counseling center, co-curricular area, cafeteria, library/media center and a teaching kitchen for its Culinary Arts Program.There will be guided tours, student entertainment and a reception with food provided by the students in the KDHSA Culinary Arts Program.

KDHSA is the first school to be built on the east bank of Jefferson Parish (public or private) since the 1980s. Established in 2013, Kenner Discovery Health Sciences Academy serves grades PK-12 at three campuses in Metairie and Kenner.  Operated by Discovery Schools, KDHSA is a Type 1 charter school authorized by Jefferson Parish Public Schools. Discovery Schools also operates Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy, in partnership with Ochsner, which opened in August 2020. Dr. John Ochsner Discovery Health Sciences Academy serves PK-6th grade and will grow one grade level each year until reaching K-8. All Jefferson Parish residents are eligible to apply to Discovery Schools.
