Morris Jeff Community School Announces International Baccalaureate (IB) Diplomas and Certificates

Four MJCS students have earned prestigious, internationally recognized  full IB diplomas and 8 earn IB certificates

Morris Jeff Community School (MJCS), a top-performing, open-admissions, PK-12 public charter school in Orleans Parish, is proud to announce its 2023 International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma graduating class and IB certificate recipients.  Four of Morris Jeff’s 2023 graduating class’ IB full diploma programme cohort earned their IB diplomas, while eight additional students have earned IB certificates. Morris Jeff is the only Louisiana school authorized by the International Baccalaureate Organization (IBO) for PK through grade 12. IB diploma results are announced annually in July.

“These students have worked hard throughout this two-year program period, persevering through the pandemic to achieve these honors,” said MJCS Principal Patricia Perkins. “Attaining an IB Diploma or certificate is a rigorous, challenging and major achievement.  It is a globally recognized diploma that is internationally recognized  as the standard for high academic progress. These students will change the world!”

The following students each earned the distinction of a  full IB diploma: Victoria Bandy, Zachary Daspit, Maya Garner and Niccoli Stryker.

The following students earned one or more IB certificates: Ethan Anderson, Yetlanezi Herrera Romero, Jasmynn Johnson, Benjamin Le, Tiare Norales, Carter Peer, Keira Robinson, and Kylee Whatley.  IB certificates often translate into college credits at a number of U.S. colleges and universities.

Morris Jeff Community School is the only Louisiana school to offer all 3 International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes – Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP). The PYP and MYP build academic, social and learning skills in our students to prepare them for the challenge of the IB Diploma.  Morris Jeff juniors and seniors can pursue the full IB Diploma. To earn the internationally-recognized Diploma, students must pass 7 courses in different subjects (including foreign language), write a 4,000 word research paper on a topic of their interest, and complete extracurricular hours dedicated to Creativity, Activity, and Service (CAS). Research shows that students with IB diplomas graduate earlier than their peers and maintain higher GPAs than non-IB students.

The following dedicated Morris Jeff  IB DP teachers helped make this great success possible: Ling Campbell, Timothy Dilligan, Andrew Dykema, Charles Greiner, Aaron Lorenz, Carmen Mack (Programme Coordinator), J.A. Patton, Matthew Schwarzfeld, Leah Shain, and Pierre Vigué.
