MJCS only Louisiana school to offer all 3 International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes
Morris Jeff Community School, a high-performing, open admissions International Baccalaureate (IB) Programme public charter school, will host Open Houses for prospective Orleans Parish students for the 2024-25 school year in grades PK-12 at all three of its campuses in November. Open House for elementary school in grades PK – 5th grade will be held on Thursday, November 2, 5:30-7 pm at the Lopez Campus at 211 S. Lopez St. in Mid-City. The middle school Open House for grades 6-8 will take place on Tuesday, November 7, 5:30-7 pm at the Drew Campus at 3819 Saint Claude Ave. The high school open house for grades 9-12 will take place on Thursday, November 9, 5:30-7 pm at its Frantz Campus at 3811 North Galvez.
Morris Jeff Community School is the only Louisiana school to offer all 3 International Baccalaureate (IB) Programmes – Primary Years (PYP), Middle Years (MYP) and Diploma (DP) for grades PK4-12. A diverse community by design, IB students learn to care about their community, value our common humanity, initiate solutions to problems, and actively pursue ways to enact change around them.
“At Morris Jeff, we value our student’s differences while providing a safe space to explore ideas and create positive change,” said Morris Jeff Community School CEO Patricia Perkins. “We are proud to be a high performing academic school, but we are more than that. Morris Jeff is a place where our students feel accepted and believed in. Our aim is to guide our students as global citizens who affect positive change and help create a better, more peaceful world.”
The PYP and MYP build academic, social, and learning skills in students to prepare them for the challenge of the IB Diploma. Students begin learning a foreign language every day in Pre-K and use their internationally-minded skills to tackle capstone projects in Grades 5, 8, and 10. Reflection and action are the pillars of academic growth and character development of MJCS students. Morris Jeff juniors and seniors have the opportunity to pursue the full IB Diploma. The internationally-recognized IB Diploma is looked favorably at by universities worldwide. Research shows that students with IB diplomas graduate earlier than their peers and maintain higher GPAs than non-IB students.
Morris Jeff is an open-admissions public charter school serving over 1400 students in Orleans Parish across 3 campuses.
