WHY:               The Lunar New Year is a festival typically celebrated in China and other Asian countries that begins with the first new moon of the lunar calendar and ends on the first full moon of the lunar calendar, 15 days later. The lunar calendar is based on the cycles of the moon, so the dates of the holiday vary slightly from year to year.

Dedicated to cultural diversity and global awareness, ISL (grades K-8) is the only multi-language immersion school chartered by the State of Louisiana. Consistently a high-performing school, ISL is a French and Spanish language immersion school that was named Charter School of the Year, a Certified World Language School, received the School Award for Exemplary Education of Young Men of Color by the Coalition of Schools Educating Boys of Color, Excellence in Immersion Award from the Orleans Public Education Network, School of Outstanding Academic Excellence status from the Louisiana Department of Education, as well as the Top Gains designation (3 times), and the Coalition of Diverse Schools Achievement Gap Award. From their first day of school, students are taught core academic subjects in either French or Spanish by native speaking teachers. ISL is dedicated to providing all of its students with a unique and high-quality education and to help young people develop, not only as students but also as community leaders and global citizens.   School website: www.isl-edu.org
