Shoffner will serve as Pilot for Axiom’s Ax-2 mission to the International Space Station 

on the SpaceX Dragon in May

WHAT:      STEAM advocate, business pioneer, pilot and astronaut John Shoffner, will visit Hynes-Lakeview School to speak to their Middle School students. Shoffner will serve as Pilot for Axiom’s Ax-2 mission to the International Space Station on the SpaceX Dragon in May.  LINK TO PRESS KIT HERE

WHY:         Shoffner’s goal is to return from space with the tools to form a STEAM-based curriculum that connects the classroom to the real world through collaboration, problem solving and creativity. Through the Ax-2 mission, he will work to bring awareness to the new era of space access through research, technology demonstration and educational events aimed at empowering educators and inspiring students to follow their core interests. Shoffner believes this era has opened doors for new careers, and that the interests we maintain in our formative years of 10-14 are likely near the core of who we are as a person.

Hynes offers a challenging academic curriculum that includes a progressive literacy program; gifted and talented courses, classes in art, instrumental music, vocal music, library, theater and physical education. Art and social-emotional learning are integrated throughout the curriculum. In addition, Hynes offers a French Immersion program at two campuses. Hynes is proud of the collaborative culture that it fosters with distributed leadership and shared decision-making.
