They were joined by the famous Warren Easton Fighting Eagles Marching Band, Marching Units, Color Guards, and teacher and student speakers. The school will now be able to accommodate 100 more freshmen in the remodeled building for a total of 350 ninth graders. The renovation is expected to be completed in August of 2022 for the upcoming 2022-23 school year.  “We are thrilled to be able to expand Warren Easton’s A-rated academic program and provide more spots for students,” said Dr. Garland. “In addition, ninth grade academies like this one are designed to smooth the transition to high school and give students the attention they need during their challenging freshman year. These academies improve grades as students become better acquainted with the rigors of a high school curriculum and mature in the process.” The building is located at 3026-30 Canal St., directly across the street from Warren Easton Charter High School. Warren Easton purchased the former Meadows-Draughon Business College with the hopes of expanding its in-demand program. The five-story, 22,534 square-foot building will be historically renovated as an annex for the freshman class. The original, 109 year-old campus will continue to house its 10-12th grades. “This new 9th Grade Academy represents years of hard work in order to expand and provide more families with the opportunity to attend Warren Easton Charter High School,” said Warren Easton Principal/CEO Jackson. “The Easton family is dedicated to maintaining our high academic standards as the highest ranking open-enrollment high school in Orleans Parish and this Ninth Grade Academy will take us above and beyond.” “The building is being renovated by the McDonnel Group, LLC with Manning Architects. ‘It is an honor to be a part of this historic renovation, and the development aspect was essential to the project’s viability,” said Project Developer and General Contractor Allan McDonnel, President, The McDonnel Group, LLC.  McDonnel provided a pathway for Warren Easton to purchase the building by obtaining both State and Federal tax credits.   For more information on Warren Easton go to warreneastoncharterhigh.org   ### The oldest public high school in Louisiana, Warren Easton is an “A” rated, open enrollment high school with a consistent 100% graduation rate.
