for High School Expansion Project

Historical renovation of building houses Easton’s new 9th Grade Academy

Top four floors of building to be dedicated to Norman C. Francis, A.P. Tureaud, Allen Toussaint and Oretha Castle Haley

WHAT:      Warren Easton Charter High School will hold a ribbon cutting for its new High School expansion project housing the top-rated, open-admission school’s Ninth-Grade Academy. The school can now accommodate 100 more freshmen in the remodeled building for a total of 350 9th graders.

There will also be a dedication of the top four floors of the five-story building. The floors will be dedicated to Norman C. Francis, A.P. Tureaud, Allen Toussaint and Oretha Castle Haley. Members of their families are expected to attend.

(located directly across the street from Warren Easton Charter High School)

WHY:

Warren Easton, the top-rated open-admission public high school in Orleans Parish, purchased the former Meadows-Draughon Business College at 3026-30 Canal St. in order to expand its in-demand program. 

The five-story, 22,534 square foot building has been historically renovated as an annex for its freshman class and the school will be able to admit 100 more students. The original, 109 year-old campus will continue to house its 10-12th grades.  The building was renovated by The McDonnel Group, LLC with Manning Architects.

The first day of school for Easton students is August 10.
