Team Set to Compete at World Championships in Houston
New Orleans, LA – The Willow School proudly announces that its Pride Robotics Team has won first place at the Louisiana Regional FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Championship. The intense competition, featuring 24 teams from across the state, took place in Denham Springs last Saturday. Willow’s exceptional performance has earned them the opportunity to represent Louisiana at the upcoming World Championships in Houston.
The Willow School CEO, Nicolette London, expressed her enthusiasm for the team’s achievement, saying, “This is only the third year that Pride Robotics has competed in the Louisiana FIRST Tech Challenge Robotics Championship, and we are proud to say our team has won each year. These students are intelligent, driven, and creative, with a true passion for science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM). We will be rooting them on in the World Championships!”
The Willow Pride Robotics team, led by their robot “Lana,” demonstrated unparalleled skill by remaining undefeated in the qualifying and semi-final rounds. They secured victory in two out of three final matches, ultimately claiming the championship. Notably, in the last match of the day, Willow set a new high score of 214 points along with Stinger Robotics from Denham Springs.
The Willow Pride robotics team members are: Abram Fortenberry, Audwin Jackson, Chloe Polin, Daniel Shen, Elissa Merlin, Jackson Bethune, Jacob Gellman, Jonathan Harwood, Kiali Brown, Marigny Gill, Miguel Barodi, My-Linh Holmes, Nathaniel Nunnery, Pearl Albritton, Sacha Gilchrist, Santiago Rodriguez-Carmona, Shreyans Sahu, Sophia Womax, Stella Bourke, Garrett Rice, Tomas Menendez-Grande, Tristan Jones and Yajie Li.
